Question: Scripture tells us that when we die and enter heaven, we will be reunited with family and friends. May we also conclude that it will also be possible to meet famous celebrities such as movie stars, musicians, writers, world leaders, even popes?

Answer: It certainly will be possible. However, in heaven the focus is on the glory of God, and the ecstatic joy of being with him. If we do encounter famous people from this earth, it can be surmised that we will not be as mesmerized by them as we often are now and will not fawn over them inordinately. Rather, seeing the beauty and dignity of all, our appreciation of the famous will be balanced and our assessment of their gifts will be seen in the light of God’s glory. Neither will they be excessively desirous of praise and honors or the trappings of fame. Instead, there will be understanding and mutual respect between everyone in the Communion of Saints. We shall see and know others more as God sees and knows them, and we shall be seen and known by them in the same way. Human judgments are fallible, but God sees the truth and dignity of us all.
